| KMTA Auditions KMTA Auditions are designed to be a positive learning experience for students. The Honors Audition is a competition open to any student of music, regardless of age, experience and instrument played. Students who receive “1” ratings at district level may continue on to the state level. All students at state receive a written evaluation by the judge in addition to a certificate. Students receiving “1” ratings also receive an award. All results are posted in the state KMTA publication. A non-competitive track is also available, but only functions at the district level. For details including fees, see http://ksmta.org/auditions.php#bce Music ProgressionsMusic Progressions is a non-competitive event that provides musicians a tool to evaluate their progress from year to year. Students may enter at various levels (1-10). They come prepared to play two pieces, and to be quizzed on their knowledge and skills relating to theory, ear training, and functional keyboard skills. Clinicians provide one on one interaction during a half hour lesson. Teachers and students receive written comments from their clinician and the graded tests forms. See http://ksmta.org/musicprogressions.php for details and to view the Music Progressions handbook. Latch-Keyboard ProjectNEKMTA originated the concept, and funded the pilot summer project in 1997. Now year round, the on-site classroom space is supplied by the Salvation Army of Topeka. Those children enrolled in their Child Care Center have the option to participate in LATCH-KEYBOARD music...preschool to age 12 music curricula. Ninety-five per cent plus (95%+) of budget goes directly to music instruction and curriculum for the children, due to volunteer administration and furnished spaces.
